Tired

It's been a busy week.

The end of year production at the junior school, the girls leavers party and now they are all off to scout and guide camps respectively...

Last night we had to take the girls main bags to the scout hut ready for packing into a van... (having not had any spare evenings this week to do the packing, it took quite a lot of effort to get them packed in time...). The scouts were packing their tents and stoves into a trailer at the same time, so A helped with that, (but fortunately they didn't have to get their personal kit ready until the morning) so we came home to finish getting A's rucksack packed - he's getting much faster at doing this now - lots of practice.

The scouts are going to Devon, so they all had to bring their kit this morning - at 6am! Amazingly they left on the coach on time at 6.30. I didn't want to risk going back to sleep when I got home, since I have to get the girls back to the scout hut for 9.30 to get on their coach. However, I'm starting to realise how tired I'm feeling.

At least I have a week of quiet evenings, (though I've volunteered to help with the village holiday club in the mornings all week, so I can't get any very long lie ins)!

Yay for packing practice and kids activities holidays, otherwise known as parental time-off-from-parenting. :)
Enjoy the time for yourself, make sure you give yourself some extra TLC while you have the chance. *hug*

I'm pottering slowly around the house...

However I've just made an unfortunate discovery... Despite asking A several times whether he had packed his raincoat, I found it at home after he had left... I had been hoping that he had taken mine instead - but I've just discovered that too. I gather the forecast is for rain, so I suspect he'll get very damp - or end up wearing a dustbin liner!

Actually... I've just realised he probably still has his old kagoule somewhere - it's sleeves are too short for him, but if he's got it, it's better than nothing... maybe the leaders won't be fuming over mothers that can't supervise their kids well enough...

Oh well, nothing I can do about it anyway!

At the point where you have asked him several times and he kept saying yes, I think most people would agree it becomes his own fault that he hasn't got it...

Logically, yes it should be his own fault... But it doesn't stop me feeling guilty that my "baby" might get cold and wet!...

I thought I'd been coping OK with him growing up, sorting out his own troubles (sometimes) and gaining his independence.... now I think maybe not!

At least it is summer and he can't get that cold...and surely somebody will take mercy on him and lend him a pacamac or something. Scout leaders must be prepared too.

According to the intermittent twitter messages we're getting from the main Scout Leader, it is raining a little, and though A has been mentioned twice, neither was for forgetting a raincoat, so he's probably got something...

You're right about the Leaders being prepared... actually about half of them are also parents of scouts, so they'll understand, and maybe expect several to have forgotten something important!

Twitter?! Eee, when I were a lass they had to send smoke signals.

...and if not, there's always the improvisational bin liner... :)

He won't be the first or the last to have forgotten something important, these things can/will be worked around as best is possible, and hey - we all have to learn to live with the consequences of our actions & our forgetfulness.
He'll live. :)

Don't let it stop you from a week of extra self-care and enjoying the parenting-duty-free time! :)

I notice there's a photograph of a number of small boys standing in a river building a damn. One of them is wearing a raincoat with the hood up, while the rest don't care. The raincoat in question has three-quarter-length sleeves :-)

Who taught that child dress sense? .. (Oh... )

Having been the only one in the river with a coat and hood up, now he is sitting by the fire in just his swimming trunks, with everyone else fully dressed!

I was hoping that there was a good reason for the shirt and tie by the campfire yesterday (actually I think there was supposed to be - extra points for serving the food to the scouters in a posh fashion!)
